It's all about camaraderie

Kriegwear is a grassroots effort to bring the memorable and masterful icons of the historic German military to everyday use by history enthusiasts like you and me. I acknowledge that some of these historical icons may be offensive to some individuals: Speaking for the entire living history 'community,' We expressly do not believe, condone or promote any political ideal. We have no racist or hate-agenda of any kind, and fiercely denounce any such behavior or viewpoint. Quite the opposite. These products are intended for individuals who participate or are interested in living history, re-enacting and preserving the memory of the common German soldiers and sailors who served in the World Wars.

The concept of Kriegwear is to provide everyday casual wear to living historians that harkens back to the history, style and icons of the World Wars. Even when they're not in the field."

Since I was a young boy, I have had a passion for the World Wars and a tremendous respect for those who fought them on all fronts. As a kid, "playing army" was like time travel for me. I grew up watching World War II movies with my Dad and as I grew older, the esprit de corp and brotherhood centered around war has always moved me. I have remained a student of history and have been active in Civil War and WWII reenacting — wanting to make history come alive for others.

We all have a story of why we love re-living "the history." For me it started with My Grandfather, a United States Army Private in World War I. The first-born son of Swedish immigrants, he proudly answered his country's call.

On Sept. 26th 1918, the first day of the AEF Meuse Argonne offensive, he heard the whistling sound descending from above — a German mortar.

While in the field hospital, he was presented with the small, knarled chuck of metal pulled from his hip. Pointing to a small hook in the jagged scrap of steel, the Field-Doctor said, "You owe your life to that." "It caused the shrapnel to spin down into your leg muscle instead of up into your vital organs."

Teary-eyed, my Dad tells this story and, "how-many family members wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the little hook on that small chunk of German mortar shell."

Ironically for me, also having a Great Grandfather in the Prussian Army, the German military become a favorite subject of interest.

So, my brothers in arms, I hope you find these iconic symbols as fascinating as I do in our endeavor to keep history alive for generations to come.

Thank you for your interest.
